is a paradise island nation located off the coast of the African continent in the southwest Indian Ocean. This stunning country is famous for being the first and only home of the Dodo which has been extinct for quite a long time now and it gained its independence in 1968. The Republic of Mauritius includes three islands, namely St. Brandon, and the Agalega Islands. And Mauritius is part of the Mascarene Islands. And Mauritius was first discovered in the 16th century by the Portuguese and taken over in 1715 by the French who developed the island into an important naval base overseeing Indian Ocean trade. The British captured the island in 1810, during the Napoleonic Wars and Mauritius gained its independence from the British in 1968. And the country has earned one of Africa's highest per capita incomes thanks to the considerable foreign investment it has attracted.
