There are other notable places to visit and stay in Northern Mauritius.
A highly popular destination for tourists is the pleasant village of Pamplemousses which boasts the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens – one of the prime tourist hot spots within Mauritius. There are some awesome variety of trees, flowers and foliage on display here – look out for the wonderful lily filled pond, a spectacular sight and possibly the most stunning feature of the gardens.
Another highly visited northern Mauritius destination is the cane-swept lands of Grand Gaube – a wonderful little fishing town which has benefited from tourism development.
Check out the pleasant Le Benarche restaurant for some good Mauritius fare. It’s fairly easy to get a taxi from Grand Gaube into Grand Baie, a ride that takes about ten minutes (though be warned, taxi rides in Mauritius can be an expensive business).
Close to Grand Baie is Pereybere with it’s luxurious white sandy beach – it’s actually a mini Grand Baie with a nice selection of hotels and restaurants. Pereybere also boasts a stretch of boutiques selling everything from clothing and shoes to memorable souvenirs.
For a good restaurant with splendid ambience try the Sea Lovers Restaurant – wonderful food and many tables are sea facing which can make your dining experience particularly memorable.
Finally, one of the most northern points of Mauritius is Cap Malheureux – while there are some hotels in this region, it’s important to note that the coastline in this region are notably more rocky than in other destinations.

If you do decide to stay in Grand Baie for your Mauritius holiday then there are no shortage of restaurants to eat at, or things to see and do. Grand Baie is within easy reach of the capital of Port Louis (buses are available daily and you can hire a taxi any time of day to take you there and back).
The island isn’t especially large which means that even other destinations such as Black Gorges in the southern part of the island can be reached without too much effort.

For good oriental food pop in to Hong Kong Tower – really outstanding food and reasonably priced. Sakura is a Japanese restaurant which serves up a fair sushi. Also a popular choice is La Jonque.
If you’re in the mood for Italian, Luigi’s is a nice place to pop in to. Another option is Don Camillo.
There are many other options too – take your pick from La Capitaine (seafood place set superbly on the coast), Alchemy (steak) or Le Tandoor (Indian).
Within an easy taxi ride is Le Bateau d’Ivre which is just before Pointe aux cannoniers. You can also get a taxi to Trou Aux Biches (about five minutes) and dine at the restaurants there.
Good cheap Chinese food is available at China Garden while Café Muller is a nice place to stop off for lunch (situated in a wonderful garden area and dishes are incredibly good value).
Other Points Of Interest In Grand Baie
There are some good nightime options for tourists within Grand Bair. For a start there are a couple of disco’s two of the most popular being Star Dance and El Diablo.
There are also many café’s and bars – Banana Café is one of the most popular, and there are many others too – Sunset Café (which boasts some spectacular sea views and has desert portion sizes that even two people would struggle to finish), Funky Monkey and Keg & Marlin to name but a few.
No tags for this post.Northern Mauritius has many highly popular locations such as Grand Baie, Trou aux Biches and Pamplemousses. There are some great holiday resorts along the northern coastline. From Port Louis there are several bus services that go to the popular regions in the North.
It’s one of Mauritius’s most happening and popular areas, and with a multitude of quality resorts and a superb range of activities you can see why. Trou Aux Biches is particularly good as far as water sports is concerned – there’s a lot to do including diving, snorkelling, parasailing, water skiing and more. Slightly north to Trou Aux Biches is Mont Choisy and between these two locations there are a multitude of good quality restaurants.
As you might expect there are a good variety of top and medium end resorts in Trou Aux Biches. There are also a couple of lower cost guest houses such as Villa Kissen which is slap bang in the middle of the area. There’s not much else as far as lower cost accommodation is concerned but if you have a moderate budget then there’s a great choice around.
The huge Trou Aux Biches hotel has its own casino and the immaculate grounds boasts a golf course to boot. There are several other hotels and resorts within this area including:
The Trou Aux Biches region is undergoing serious development – new hotels, villas and beach houses are springing up at pace – among the new structures are some very good restaurants, so those staying in and around the Trou Aux Biches area will have no shortage of eateries to tuck into.
Among the classier places to eat are a variety of seafood places (Le Mouillage and Le Pescatore). Not in the mood for fish? No problem, there are several more places to eat such as La Bella Vita which serves up classic Italian cuisine and Le Marmite Mauricienne which offers a huge menu that includes just about everything from sandwiches to cooked Indian food.
If you need something on a more budget friendly level then Popo supermarket is available to buy basic groceries.

Among the best pickings are in Trou D’eau Douce, such as Chez Tino which serves up traditional Mauritius fare at reasonable prices. For good seafood, Resto 7 has a nice menu – try the lobster if you can. Another premium sea food choice in Trou D’eau Douce is Le Four a Chaud.
Belle Mare also has a couple of places to stop off for a meal. Emperor serves up some good Chinese cuisine, and La Grisee Mer is a sea food restaurant which offers some good standard seafood.
Ile Aux Cerfs is in fact a separate island (still owned by Mauritius) about twenty minutes by boat from Trou d’Eau Douce and it has some splendid isolated beaches that are well worth a visit.
The diving here is among the best to be found anywhere in Mauritius. You can also find a couple of good restaurants dotted along this small island to have lunch at.
No tags for this post.The Eastern region of Mauritius is known for reasonably good beaches, but there aren’t as many well known resorts as in the other areas of Mauritius. The most prestigious resorts tend to be around the Belle Mare and Trou D’eau Douce areas.
Bellle Mare is one of the best places in the Eastern region of Mauritius for diving. Lots of holiday makers to Mauritius come here for the good diving facilities – there’s even opportunity to enjoy undersea walks here (provided by a handful of the dive operators around).
There are a couple of wonderfully luxurious resorts here – Belle Mare Plage is a five star golfing resort, and Beau Rivage is another five star resort with airy rooms and a very good spa.
Those with a somewhat lower budget still have plenty of places to choose from. There’s Coral Beach which has various studio apartments that are cheap by Mauritius standards. A little more up market, yet still economical is the three star Palmar Beach Hotel which has good facilities for a smaller hotel.
Fishing towns are a dime a dozen in Mauritius. One of the places many holiday makers to the east side of Mauritius tend to stay in is Trou D’eau Douce.
If you’ve got a good budget for your holiday to Mauritius then Le Trouessrok is a five star hotel that is the absolute pinnacle of luxury. Other hotel choices along Trou D’eau Douce include Le Tropical, and Cilaos Beach Resort.
There isn’t too much else for tourists to look at in the Eastern area of Mauritius, though some tourists like to visit Centre De Flacq, a pleasant market town with some nice restaurants.

There are other villages spread throughout the centre but the above two tend to be the major destination for tourists on holiday to Mauritius.
The National Park allows for a good deal of hiking and there are some splendid mountain scenes to be taken in here – and the National Park is within relatively easy reach from most areas of Mauritius.
This very unique region of Mauritius has some incredible mountains, spectacular scenery including gushing waterfalls, and represents great opportunities for hiking and nature lovers.
A scenic drive is very much recommended within the National Park and you can go on an organised tour, or even hire a car to take you for the day. The resort you stay at should tell you how you can book a car or excursion to visit.
There’s a tourist information centre available for holiday makers who wish to explore the Park further, and go on for hikes.
